BIO
Julian Astelarra (Santa Fe, 1983) earned a degree in Painting from the National University of the Arts in 2011. He completed his training through key programs and studios such as the Artists Program at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (2019), Artistas x Artistas at El Mirador (2020), and workshops with Valentina Liernur, Juan Tessi, Florencia Rodrigues Giles, Carlos Huffmann, Nancy Rojas, Max Gómez Canle, and Alfredo Aracil. In 2021, he was selected for a visit studio with David Joselit and took Fabián Marcaccio’s painting workshop at UTDT. He also expanded his training in writing and theory with Claudio Iglesias, Adrián Bertorello, Liliana Porter, Rodrigo Alonso, Máximo Jacoby, and Laura Batkis.
His main solo exhibitions include Pliegues Aplanados (2024), curated by Clarisa Appendino, and Olor a pintura podrida (2021), curated by Alfredo Aracil, both at Acéfala gallery. He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, including the UADE National Visual Arts Award (2025), the 6th Fundación Argentino Award for the Visual Arts at Fundación OSDE (2025), BIENALSUR (2023), the Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat Foundation Award (2023), Microferia Rosario (2021), as well as exhibitions in Ireland, Santa Fe, Mar del Plata, and various institutions in Buenos Aires.
