BIO
Franco Basualdo was born in Corrientes in 1985. He completed his
secondary education at Juana Manso Technical School, where he
developed an interest in manual tasks and showed great enthusiasm in
workshops on blacksmithing, turnery and electronics.
He pursued a degree in graphic design at National University of the
Northeast and, upon completion, moved to Buenos Aires to consolidate
his knowledge. He honed his skills as a self-taught sculptor, with a strong
focus on metals, mechanisms, and large-scale installations. He has also
worked alongside other artists in collaborative projects.
In 2017, he was selected to participate in the PAC Artists Program and
attended seminars as part of the ABC scholarship and project monitoring
clinic at EAC, Montevideo. He was selected to exhibit in the 106th, 107th,
and 108th Palais de Glace Prizes, as well as in the Young Art Biennial of
Buenos Aires in the “Finished Artwork” category.
In 2018, he showcased his work at EAC Montevideo, Proa XXI, and
Kirchner Cultural Center in the exhibition “Democracia en obra”. He
received an honorable mention in the art and technology contest
organized by the Argentinian National Endowment for the Arts (FNA)and
held his first solo exhibition titled “La disciplina de los cuerpos”.
In 2019, he participated in a residency at La Verdi in Mexico City to
develop the project “El arte es una práctica de combate”, which was
exhibited at Munar art space. He also received a creation grant from the
FNA that same year.
In 2020, his project “Maestros de la realidad” was launched, and the first
chapter of this saga, called Génesis, was exhibited in public spaces
throughout the city.
