BIO
Gonzalo Maggi (1984) is an artist and curator based in London/Buenos Aires. He studied Film Directing at the University of Cinema (Argentina). In 2013, he participated in the Artists’ Program at Torcuato Di Tella University, followed by the Artists’ Program of the National Endowment for the Arts (FNA) at the Haroldo Conti Memory Center in 2014. He has also attended workshops and art clinics with Gabriel Valansi, Alberto Goldenstein, Hernán Marina, and Juan Travnik.
In 2013, he held his first solo exhibition titled “Quiet Yet Relentless”, curated by Alberto Goldenstein at Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center. In 2014, he exhibited at Teatro de la Ribera with the curatorship of Juan Travnik under the title “Imminence”. In 2019, he presented his third solo exhibition titled "Not to Wake the City" curated by Carlos Herrera at Munar. He has also participated in group exhibitions such as "Orbitar" (UNGS, 2019), "Ficciones al margen" (Pasto Gallery, 2017), "Paisajes humanos" (Winzavod, Moscow, Russia, 2015), "Desde los bordes" (M.A.C.R.O., 2014), "DOS" (Lebensohn Foundation, 2013), and "Territorios" (FNA, 2013), among others.
His works have been exhibited in museums such as M.A.C.R.O, Emilio Caraffa Museum, M.A.C, Evita Museum of Fine Arts, Palais de Glace, and M.A.C.L.A. He has also exhibited in galleries including Aldo de Sousa, Pasto, Carla Rey, Arte x Arte, and Bisagra Contemporary Art, as well as in foundations and cultural centers such as Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center, Recoleta Cultural Center, and Lebensohn Foundation.
In 2015, he was awarded the FNA Creation Grant. His work has been finalist in various competitions including the Itaú Cultural Visual Arts Award (2012 and 2017), Andreani Foundation Visual Arts Award (2017), Visual Arts Contest-FNA (2017), Quimera Award for Art and Political Reflection (2015, jury mention), Contemporary Photography Salon of the Caraffa Museum (2012 and 2014, jury mention), National Salon of Rosario (2012), Arte x Arte Biennial (2012), National Salon of Visual Arts (2012), Annual Award of the Buenos Aires Legislature (2012), and People from my City (2012, fifth prize; and 2013, jury mention).
His work is part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires and various private collections in Argentina, the United States, Spain, Switzerland, and France.
Since 2018, he has directed the Intemperie Gallery, where he has also worked as a curator of numerous exhibitions: “Under Black Waters Clocks Run Slowly” (Hartslane, London, 2024), “And so the broken mend themselves” (Somers Gallery, London, 2024), “Where the Brave Weep” (Munar, Av.
